We are looking for a qualified, experienced, creative and innovative candidate to serve as our new full-time (40 hours) Health Agent.

The purpose of this position is to educate, promote, improve, and protect the public health, wellbeing and sanitary living conditions of all the residents of the Town of Maynard, while contributing to building a healthy community and protection of the public, control of disease, promotion of sanitary living conditions, and protection of the environment from damage and pollution. Under the Commonwealth of Massachusetts General Law, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Federal Public Health Law, and State Sanitary and Environmental Codes, the Health Department is mandated under a dutiful obligation to develop and implement health policies, standards, bylaws, and regulations and all other related work as required. The Health Department is also obligated to conduct inspections, plan and organize public health processes and programs and provide public health services to the community. The Health Agent assists with on-call duty in conjunction with emergency response, communicable disease, public health hazards, rabies response and other health-related issues. This position is Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) ‘exempt’.

A minimum of two (2) years full-time or equivalent part-time technical or professional experience in public health or related field.  Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in Public Health or related field required, or equivalent education and experience to fulfill the essential functions of the position.  Comprehensive knowledge of the practices and administration of public health. Extensive knowledge of the applicable state and local laws and regulations related to public health. Comprehensive knowledge of the state sanitary codes. Extensive knowledge of a public health-related field such as epidemiology, disease prevention, or environmental health. General knowledge of Uniform Procurement Act, Open Meeting Law, Conflict of Interest and Public Records Law required.   Mass Board of Registration of Sanitarians or National Environmental Health Assoc. may be substituted for required experience. Registration strongly preferred.  Certified Pool Operator required or must obtain certification within 12 months of hire.  Licensed Soil Evaluator required or must obtain licensure within 12 months hire.   Licensed Lead Determinator required or must obtain licensure within 12 months of hire.  Valid Massachusetts driver’s license required.  Strong skills in organization, communication, and writing, and ability to pass pre-employment CORI/SORI required.
