Job Description
This is a full-time, twelve month, Monday through Friday position Hours are as follows:
* Probationary period first 60 days on the 1st shift - 7:00am to 3:30pm with a 30 minute unpaid/duty free lunch
* After probationary period, hours may shift to 2nd shift - 2:30pm to 11:00pm with a 30 minute unpaid/duty free lunch
POSITION TITLE: Evening Custodian
CLASSIFICATION: Full-time, twelve month; non-exempt; bargaining unit
REPORTS TO: Director of Facilities
WORK SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday, day or night shift, plus additional time consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement
GENERAL SUMMARY
Responsible for general cleaning, maintenance, and small repair work inside and outside School building.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performing all cleaning tasks inside and outside School buildings, including sweeping, using vacuum cleaner, mopping, scrubbing, stripping, buffing, sealing and waxing floors, and dusting.
Moving and arranging furniture, equipment, draperies, and storage equipment.
Removing wastepaper and other materials and emptying waste receptacles inside and outside of the building.
Replacing light bulbs.
Performing routine maintenance on lavatory equipment, including unstopping plugged fixtures..
Removing ice and snow from School grounds and roof decks, salting and sanding.
Locking and unlocking facility and securing facility when leaving the building vacant, including setting alarms.
Unloading and storing supplies and equipment.
Picking up and delivering supplies.
Regular and prompt attendance.
Such other duties may from time to time be assigned by the Director of Facilities or Night Shift Supervisor.
ANCILLARY JOB FUNCTIONS
Occasional minor electrical work, carpentry, plumbing and painting.
Performing security functions, as needed.
Driving forklift on intermittent basis.
Driving school vehicles as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS. AND ABILITIES
Working knowledge of building cleaning practices.
Ability to read labels and instructions.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions with little ongoing supervision..
Knowledge of, or ability to learn and apply, safety procedures and requirements for use, storage and disposal of cleaning supplies and hazardous materials.
Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with supervisors and staff, and to deal courteously with supervisors, staff, students and members of the public who use the School.
Skill in basic building maintenance tasks, including simple plumbing, electrical work, carpentry and painting.
Ability to use a forklift, snowplow, and sander operations.
Ability to use, and dispose of, cleaning products and other potentially hazardous materials safely.
Ability to use a snow blower.
Skill in operating cleaning tools and other custodial equipment.
Ability to do grounds work, mowing and general maintenance.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS AND
CERTIFICATIONSILICENSES
Requirements: Negative tuberculin test; valid Massachusetts driver’s license; ability to obtain OSHA 10 hour General Industry.
Highly Desirable: Diploma from an accredited secondary school or GED; Massachusetts Hydraulic Engineer license.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Seeing: Must have the ability to read labels and instructions, observe areas requiring custodial services, and use custodial supplies and equipment safely.
Communication: Must have the ability to understand instructions and communicate with students, staff and other building users.
Physical Activities: Heavy physical activity, including regular lifting of 50 pounds, shoveling, bending, stooping, climbing stairs and ladders, and reaching overhead; long hours of standing and walking. Must be able to work at varying heights off of ladders, lifts, and staging.
Availability: Must be available for Emergency calls 24/7, must be available for snow removal when needed.
