The Town of Acton is seeking a full-time Assistant Director of Innovation and Technology to join the Information Technology (IT) Department. This position plays a critical role in supporting the daily operations of the Town’s technology environment, helping ensure systems remain reliable, secure, and responsive to the needs of municipal departments. Working under the direction of the Director of Innovation and Technology, the Assistant Director focuses on coordinating IT operations, supporting infrastructure and systems administration, and helping implement technology projects that enhance how Town staff deliver services to the community.
General Duties and Responsibilities: The Assistant Director of Innovation and Technology assists in coordinating IT operations, managing technology projects, and ensuring reliable technology services across Town departments. This role serves as the department’s operational lead and works closely with the Director to support infrastructure oversight, vendor coordination, and implementation of technology initiatives. The Assistant Director assists with supervising IT Technicians and the IT Help Desk Technician, coordinating day-to-day assignments and providing technical guidance to staff. The position also serves as a technical resource for complex system issues and collaborates with Town departments to identify and implement technology solutions that improve service delivery.
Minimum Entrance Requirements: Minimum of 5–7 years of progressively responsible experience in information technology operations, infrastructure management, or systems administration. Experience supporting enterprise systems and coordinating technology projects. Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Public Administration, or related field. Or, any combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with public-sector organizations or municipal government. Experience managing enterprise infrastructure, cloud services, and cybersecurity programs. Supervisory experience preferred.
Special Requirements: Valid Driver’s License. Ability to attend evening and weekend meetings as needed. Availability for off-hours emergency support as needed.
Pay Rate: I-19; starting at $106k-120k/yr.
