Sonny Landreth

Eric Clapton calls Sonny Landreth "the most underestimated musician on the planet and also one of the most advanced.”
Sonny cut his musical teeth in The Red Hot Louisiana Band of zydeco king Clifton Chenier, and has since recorded and toured with artists like John Mayal, John Hiatt, Derek Trucks, Junior Wells, John Mayall, Irma Thomas, Clarence Gatemouth Brown, Kenny Loggins, Mark Knopfler, Eric Johnson, Robben Ford, Vince Gill, Bonnie Raitt, Eric Clapton and hundreds of other world-class artists. This Louisiana based Blues guitar wizard's slide playing is distinctive and unlike anything else you've ever heard. His unorthodox style where he simultaneously plays slide and fingers the fret board produces a sound that is often said to resemble many instruments playing at once. At the peak of a song he can lift you right up off your chair. His music encompasses Mississippi Delta blues, zydeco and Southern rock, but his work as sideman extraordinaire has made him outstanding in most genres. If Leonardo Da Vinci played guitar, he’d be Sonny Landreth. It's not only by his playing that Landreth has made his mark - he is also a songwriter who fuses his music with potent storytelling, drawing from the rich heritage of southern Louisiana culture. For lyrical content he claims Robert Johnson and William Faulkner as major influences.
After a dozen acclaimed albums, Sonny found himself at an artistic crossroads. He wanted to finally create the full-length acoustic collection his fans had long requested. But he was also itching to capture the sound of his stalwart electric trio augmented by a couple of his favorite collaborators. And the time was certainly right for an elastic, career-spanning double-live album. So Landreth and his longtime friends decided to do it all. 'Recorded Live in Lafayette’ is a 16-song opus that covers more musical ground than any single album ever could, as the singer and songwriter’s work stretches and twists across 93 minutes of full-band acoustic and electric bottleneck lightning.
But in the end, Sonny Landreth, the tireless slide guitar master and storyteller just plain loves touring and performing as he told the audience, “As long as you keep coming out, we’ll keep coming back no matter what time of year.”
